  • Prospective marriage 300: this is for couples who are engaged with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa expires in the 9 month after visa approval.

2. Application and Documentation process

The form requires detailed information including the applicant’s identity, passport-size photographs, health and character criteria, sponsor details and relationship particulars.


  • Partner Visa (subclass 820 and 801) - Under this, dependent children and/or stepchildren can be included, and they would be eligible to have the same rights and visa conditions as the applicant.

  • Subclass 309 Provisional and Subclass 100 Migrant - Under this, children and stepchildren can be included in the application. immediate family members can be mentioned.

  • Prospective Marriage Visa (subclass 300) - Under this category, dependent children or stepchildren can be included and upon getting the visa they will enjoy the same rights and visa conditions as the applicant.


3. Important criteria

The partner visa is only applicable when the applicant and sponsor are above 18 years. Following are some of the significant details:


  • Subclass 820 Partner visa- Temporary - For this visa, it is necessary to apply from within Australia. It is applicable for the actual partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen residing in Australia temporarily. For Visa Applicants

You must be at least 18 years of age and living outside Australia when filing the application. It must be sponsored by the fiancé/fiancée. You also need to meet the health requirements, character and relationship criteria.

You must be the official fiancé of the person you are sponsoring.


4. Interacting with DoHA or Case officer

You may be requested to provide additional documentation or evidence by the department. They may also request an interview with the partner visa applicant.
